Di Leo Writes Manuscript

Published August 17, 2002, in the Park Rapids Enterprise
"A true story is always the best story, especially when it pertains
to overcoming obstacles in life," said former Minnesota Vikings
coach Bud Grant about Sal and Jane Di Leošs manuscript, Did I
Ever Thank You, Sister? The father and daughter team who have
vacationed in the Park Rapids area the past 20 years have written
and edited a manuscript receiving positive reviews from newspapers
around the country.
On a cold Minnesota day in January 1999, Di Leo, a marketing
consultant in Minneapolis, sat down and began writing his life
story. Six days later he finished the rough draft of a manuscript
titled Did I Ever Thank You, Sister? Di Leo tells the story
of being placed in an orphanage outside Chicago as a young child in
the 1960s, staying at Boys Town in Nebraska during his high school
years, and struggling through his early adult life.
When Di Leo finished compiling his memories, his oldest daughter,
Jane, then 17 years old, helped edit the manuscript. For the past
three years Di Leo has been passing the manuscript around to friends
and family. He is looking for a publisher who will print the story
without much editing, keeping it close to its original form. Di Leo
and his wife, Elizabeth, own a parcel of land on Lake George where
they are slowly building St. Francis Lodge. The lodge will be
dedicated to being a place where young women intent on becoming
Catholic Sisters can go to have some peace from the city. It will
also be a place where full-time Sisters can go to get away and find
some rest at no charge.
